The third, or Solar Plexus Chakra, located above the navel and just below the sternum, is our center of energy associated with ego, will-power, ambition, personal power, self-esteem, and self-respect. The Sanskrit word for the solar plexus chakra is "Manipura," which means "a shining gem," or "lustrous gem."
The solar plexus chakra is our energy powerhouse -- the seat of our personal power. People with a healthy Manipura feel a strong sense of purpose, have the courage to do something that might be frightening, and are self-motivated and self-confident. However, low self-esteem, difficulty making decisions, or seeing ourselves as powerless are often signs of a blocked Manipura.
An over-active solar plexus chakra can lead to aggressiveness, anger issues, and being overly critical of others (as well as ourselves). An under-active Manipura can show up as passiveness, indecision, timidity, worry about what others think, or a lack of self-control.
When our Manipura is balanced, we feel a sense of wisdom, decisiveness, and personal power. When it is out of balance, we can exhibit emotional and/or physical symptoms, such as:
Emotional Symptoms:
Domineering Anger Judgmental Bullying Shame Feelings of inadequacy Lack of confidence
Physical Symptoms:
Digestive problems Ulcers Liver problems Gallstones Pancreas disorders (like diabetes of hypoglycemia) Celiac's disease Gas and acidity
Solar Plexus Chakra associated body parts and endocrine glands:
